Protecting Student Information

At Sci High, we take the protection of student information very seriously. Data from our Student Information System (PowerSchool) is sent to certain classroom applications via managed connections through secure File Transfer Protocol and is encrypted in transit. The educational application sites used in Sci High classrooms have valid SSL certificates. These tools access only what is required for classroom use. The personally identifiable information used by the majority of these applications is limited to only full name.

All of our vendors adhere to the Federal Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and most are voluntary signatories of the Student Privacy Pledge. Under FERPA, we provide parents and guardians with an opportunity to inspect and review the education records of their children which are already in existence and maintained.  Parents also have the right to request that inaccurate or misleading information in their child's education records be amended.

LA Act 837 permits LEAs (Local Education Agencies) such as Sci High to share student information with the education services with which they are contracted. In accordance with LA Act 677, parents and students can click on the icons on this page to view the Privacy Policies of each of the ed tech services used at Sci High.
We use ACT, SER, College Board, and ELPT for assessments as well as eScholar for required Louisiana State Department of Education reporting.

We use Clever to securely sync some classroom rosters with PowerSchool. Clever is a data Application Program Interface (API) that is in over half the schools in the country. They are a leader in security, with a published whitepaper on protecting student data. Data in transit to Clever is always encrypted using configurations of TLS/SSL and data in storage is encrypted with algorithms and key management. Clever's API calls are authenticated, they have ongoing audits and external audit reviews, and their infrastructure is compliant with the most stringent internet security standards. Click the icons to the right to read the Privacy Policies of the Clever integrated applications used at Sci High.

Some applications are integrated with Google's GSuite platform. To access these tools, students log in with their student gmail accounts and their log-ins are then Google authenticated. Google for Education forces HTTPS (Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure) for all transmissions between users and GSuite services and uses Perfect Forward Secrecy (PFS) for all its services. Click the icons below to read the Privacy Policies of the GSuite integrated applications used at Sci High.

Other sites used at Sci High are not integrated with any other systems, but still adhere to student privacy standards. Student accounts are created within the site itself. Click the icons below to read the Privacy Policies of these tools.

These services are not used by students, but by faculty and staff. They do receive student data, however. Click the icons below to read about data sharing with SchoolMessenger, Kickboard, and HSFC.
