Admissions

Sci High is a full-day comprehensive charter high school authorized by the Orleans Parish School Board, governed by the Advocates for Science and Mathematics Education, supported by the Foundation for Science and Mathematics Education, and housed at 5625 Loyola Avenue on the former Allen Elementary Campus uptown between Nashville Ave. and Joseph Street. It is among the few open-admission STEM schools in the nation.

As a public open-enrollment school, SciHigh accepts students in all grades until the school reaches its capacity of 425 students. SciHigh accepts students in order of their application, and with no consideration for test scores, grades, or recommendations from previous schools. SciHigh's admissions policy also follows the Orleans Parish School Board pupil progression policy, which states that any student coming into 9th grade must pass the 8th grade LEAP test, according to state regulations.

Sci High encourages applications and participates in Eastbank Collaborative Charter School Application. Applications for fall, 2012 are accepted on a space-available basis.

To help middle-school students and their families learn about Sci High, staff members visited 13 local elementary schools in the fall, with more visits scheduled in the spring. Well-attended open houses for parents and students making the high school decision are scheduled each fall and spring. Prospective students also have the opportunity to shadow Sci High students during morning classes, and parents and students can arrange individual visits.
